Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) & Low Impact Development
Grade 4-12 & Adults | 1.25-2.25 hours | Indoors & Outdoors | Only Available at BWD | Students/participants will compare and contrast conventional construction, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), and Low Impact Development (LID) methods and goals. Research teams will explore the various aspects of LEED and LID purposes and practices.
Drinking Water Treatment Processes, History, & Careers
Grade 4-12 & Adults | 2.25 hours | Indoors | Only Available at BWD | Meet with Beaver Water District employees to learn about the various water treatment career areas. View/discuss Drinking Water Treatment Processes DVD and the interactive scale model of the BWD drinking water treatment facility.
Engineering Careers in Drinking Water Resource Management & Treatment

Pervious Concrete Demonstration
Grade 4-12 & Adults | .75 hour | Outdoors | Only Available at BWD | Flow-rate experiment familiarizes participants with characteristics, composition, and function of pervious pavement, used in Low Impact Development (LID), for purposes of removing pollutants in stormwater and reducing runoff.
Drinking Water Treatment

Beaver Lake Watershed Topographic Map Activity
Grade 4-12 & Adults | 1 hour | Portable Indoors | Introduction to topographic mapping, map components, watershed delineation, stream classification, development to accommodate human population growth, land use/land change, point vs. non-point source pollution, best management practices for watershed/stream protection.
Stream Table Demonstration: Watershed & Stream Dynamics
Grade 4-12 & Adults | 1.5 hours | Portable Indoors & Outdoors | Participants observe the dynamics of flowing water and discuss the major factors that determine or affect stream and watershed characteristics.
Water Analysis: Chemical & Physical Properties of Water
Grade 7-12 & Adults | 1.5 hours | Outdoors | Only available at BWD April - September | Students/participants identify water samples as bottled water vs. tap water by utilizing various water analysis technologies to test chemical and physical properties.
Water Quality Testing Methods, Materials, & Equipment
Grade 5-12 & Adults | 1.5 hours | Portable Indoors | Presenter & Students/Participants discuss (with PowerPoint visuals) the accuracy and cost of different water testing methods; view & examine water sampling & testing materials & equipment; analyze & interpret data from a Beaver Lake Depth/Temperature profile to locate the Thermocline, identify factors that affect it, & explain its significance as an indicator of Water Quality; evaluate 2 or more test result data sets to determine why or why not a given sample is BWD tap water or bottled/other water.
