This quarter let’s get to know one of our Washington County representatives, Leigh Ann Johnston, who has been serving on the board since 2019.
Why did you initially want to serve on the BWD board?
I was motivated to serve on the Beaver Water District board because I wanted to contribute to ensuring the sustainability and quality of our region’s water supply. Water is a critical resource, and being part of the board allows me to help enable the team and initiatives that protect and enhance our water infrastructure. Additionally, I wanted to engage with the community and advocate for responsible, sustainable water management practices.
What has been most fulfilling to you personally about being on the board?
The most fulfilling aspect of being on the board has been witnessing the positive impact of our efforts on the community – from providing access to clean and safe drinking water to source water protection and education and outreach. It’s also fulfilling to collaborate with the dedicated team of professionals at the district who are committed to excellence and passionate about serving the Northwest Arkansas community. Their expertise and dedication are instrumental in maintaining high standards of water quality and service.
Is there anything that surprised you about the water treatment process?
One surprising aspect of the water treatment process has been the complexity and sophistication involved in ensuring water quality. I didn’t fully appreciate the extent of technological advancements and continuous monitoring required to meet regulatory standards and ensure efficient operations. Additionally, the need to invest in infrastructure improvements is an interesting opportunity that requires strategic planning and investment.
